We had a great group for the studio fall piano party. Activities included:
- A variety of fall games and worksheets to do for those who arrived early
- Thanksgiving D-A-Y bingo - which was a great review of music terms and notes
- "Put on a Happy FACE" (there is a FACE in the treble SPACES) and a F-A-C-E worksheet
- Composer feature was George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) - Baroque German born English
composer. We learned about his life and his famous music which included:
- "Water Music" - It premiered on July 17, 1717 after King George I of England
requested a concert on the River Thames. The musicians rode on a barge next to the
King's barge. The King liked the music so much that he requested that it be
played 3 times. Listen here.
- "Music for the Royal Fireworks" - a wind band suite composed for King George II for
the fireworks in London in 1749. It has 5 movements. This music was performed
250 years later for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II on June 1, 2002, at the
Buckingham Palace gardens, complete with fireworks. Listen here - Overture and
entire work.
- "Messiah" - featuring the "Hallelujah Chorus". While composing this work, Handle
became so absorbed that he rarely left his room. In only 24 days, he completed 260 pages.
In 1743, it was performed for the King. When the first notes of the truimphant "Hallelujah
Chorus" rang out, the King rose to his feet! Following royal protocol, the entire audience
stood too. This tradition of standing continues today. Listen here - "Hallelujah Chorus"
and entire work.
- Rhythm cups - worked on "We Wish You a Merry Christmas"
- Candy/Cookie Turkey to take home
